Are Your Leaders Ready for the Modern Workplace?

Over the past century, the way our organizations operate has changed significantly. Yet much of what you’ll find in most leadership programs today hasn’t changed since Henry Ford was rolling out the assembly line in his car factories.

Back in those days, successful companies were largely focused on standardization and scalable efficiency – especially focused on labor productivity. Command and control was the order of the day

In today’s fast-paced, dynamic work environment this type of leadership style is in many respects becoming an obstacle to success. Hierarchy and authority is becoming far less effective than they used to be, while collaborative skills and digital mindsets are increasingly important.

Today more and more organizations are looking for socially aware business leaders who understand there are important considerations for other constituencies beyond the traditional stakeholders including the environment and the communities in which they serve.

When it comes to technology, leaders today face a myriad of new challenges due to the speed of technological, social, and economic change.  Adaptability will be critical for future leaders. Even the best of class tech tools from a few years ago are already becoming obsolete. This means keeping up requires embracing things like automation and artificial intelligence (AI) to glean more key insights faster. This means humans can be even better at generating value through skills like vision, intuition and creativity that machines and robots will never have. In other words, leverage what they do best so we can do what we do best even better.

Traditional leadership perspectives still have a place in today’s new world of work. But they need to be merged with a new set of emerging competencies and we must recognize what continuous evolving and effective leadership looks like in the 21st century.

At Change 4 Growth, we believe the best leaders are going to be the ones who are able to understand the shifting landscapes of our modern organizations and are prepared to adroitly navigate them to achieve results for themselves, their teams and their organizations.
